Mary Ann Hurtado is a singer-songwriter writing from the in-between—her upbringing in Texas and Venezuela, instinct and overthinking, confidence and doubt, light and something heavier just beneath.
Her influences span from her parents' love for Vallenato, Venezuelan gaitas, Fleetwood Mac, and George Strait to her own pull toward the Goo Goo Dolls, Fiona Apple, Shakira, and Avril Lavigne. Her writing is sharp, self-aware, and slightly ironic—more interested in the question than the answer, often holding a feeling in her hands as if resolution remains far away.
She's worked closely with mentors Sarah Kelly and Jonas Ekman and has landed on the Grammy ballot for Best Rock Performance for “Thanks for the Music” , but the core of her work hasn't changed—it still starts the same way it always has: with something she can't quite explain, and the need to try anyway.
